GROW’s June movie night is this Sunday, June 23, at 6 PM at the EMS Community Room, 201 N. Klein Drive in Waunakee. The film is Blue Gold, a documentary about threats to international water resources, and what needs to be done to preserve them. youtube/watch?v=Ikb4WG8UJRw In every corner of the globe, we are polluting, diverting, pumping, and wasting our fresh water at an expediential level as population and technology grows. The rampant overdevelopment of agriculture, housing and industry increase the demands for fresh water well beyond the supply. Corporate giants force developing countries to privatize their water supply for profit. Wall Street investors target desalination and mass water export schemes. Corrupt governments use water for economic and political gain. Military control of water emerges and a new geo-political map and power structure forms, setting the stage for world water wars. The speaker to follow the movie will be Ezra Meyer, a water resource specialist at Clean Wisconsin and is also a member of the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District Commission, who will be able to fill us in on challenges and opportunities right here in Dane County. Please share this with any friends who depend on water! Admission is free; snacks and beverages will be served.
