Game preview: Cougars @ Royal Holloway In what is the final - TopicsExpress

Game preview: Cougars @ Royal Holloway In what is the final game before the winter break the Kingston Cougars (4-0) head to the Royal Holloway Bears (2-0) in what will surely be the Div1- London Conference Title decider. The Cougars coming off a bye-week should be fresh, whereas the Bears come in to the match up off a convincing 34-7 win against the Brunel Burners (1-3). Prior to the bye week Kingston faced off against Greenwich in extremely poor conditions and ran out 35-6 winners after 4 Touchdowns from Running Back Matthew Marshall, in what has shown that the Cougars run can be just as potent as the pass. In fact at the halfway stage of the season, Kingston has put up 147 points a remarkable upturn from previous seasons in which the Kingston Cougars were able to only score 117 points in 2012/13 and 185 points in 2013/14 both after 8 games. The Kingston Defence has been even more impressive having yet to concede a single point against opposition this season (the 6 points conceded versus Greenwich was a intercepted pass), as well as consistently putting points on the board (2 TD’s and 2 Safeties) through turnovers (at least 12 Fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions). With opponents rarely even getting into the Kingston redzone (inside 20 yards). The Bears have started the 2014/15 season very well, beating the City Sentinels 46-19 and Brunel 34-7. Last season the Bears managed to get all the way to the Plate Final losing to a very good Swansea side. The disappointment of being so close will surely buoy on the Bears this season and after a confident start their sights will be firmly set on claiming that playoff position. Not much is known about this match up since neither team has faced the same opponent in their fixtures thus far, other than the Bears still look to have a rather potent Offence and the Cougars still have a formidable Defence. Previous results indicate that Kingston may have a slight edge as both times the teams have faced each other Kingston have won 21-0 (13/14 season) and 18-6 (12/13 season). The game is quite possibly too close to call, as both teams will be fighting for a victory that could very probably send one team 8-0 on the season and heading to the Promotion Playoffs. The Cougars and Bears will enter the contest knowing that the whole season is on the line and that winning will be the only option. Where this game will be won or lost could quite simply come down to what team makes the fewest errors, but it looks to be a Goliath match up between Royal Holloway Offence and Kingston Defence where even a yard could make or break each teams season. We understand that this may be too far too travel, but if you do want to come down and show the Cougars some love, kickoff will be at 1pm on Sunday the 7th of December at the Royal Holloway Sports Fields, Prune Hill TW20 9TR.
