Garbage Control AYE KYUN Garbage Management System This method was tried by Aye Kyun Village Community, Mattaya Tsp., Mandalay Region as Ayeyarwady Big Three Symbiosis Project (AB3) activity, and technically supported by Center of Marine Environmental Studies (CMES), Ehime University, Japan and CFDTC Patheingyi sub-centre, Forest Department, Myanmar. AYE KYUN standard of Garbage Separation # Cooperative Managing Item Burnable buried garbage: plastic, rubber, styrene foam, paper, cloth Crushable buried garbage: glass, ceramic, metal, aluminum foil Organic wastage A: plant wastage (mainly fallen leaves) Compost # Personal Managing Item Cashed garbage: glassware & plastic bottle without damage, cashable metal Personal sale Organic wastage B: leftover food, crop’s wastage Livestock’s feed Facilities & Procedure # Dig one big hole for Burnable buried garbage When the hole becomes nearly full of garbage, garbage should be burned. A deeper hole is better for complete burning in a higher heat. Village fire fighters would be suitable persons in charge of burning. After burning, ash is covered with soil thinly so that toxic substances cannot be spread. Garbage can be dumped into the hole again and piled up and burned repeatedly. # Dig another big hole for Crushable buried garbage When some amounts of garbage are piled up, they should be crushed and covered with soil thinly. Garbage can be dumped into the hole again and piled up and crushed repeatedly. * Take care of any person not to drop into holes. # Get plant wastage together at the fixed place After gathering enough amount of materials at some hollow, enclosure, etc., compost making process can be started either personally or communally.
