Gary Fielding wrote a winning letter in a local magazine this week that inspired me to share with all those I care about- I wont quote word for word just the pertinent parts...... Three years ago our youngest daughter (42) who lives in America with her husband and our 3 wonderful grandchildren contracted an aggressive & incurable cancer- Ocular Melanoma ( OM). At diagnoses she was given 24 hours to decide whether to have her eye removed or not. Their decision was to go ahead with the op which was successful. The following sums up our daughters positive approach to living with a dreaded disease. - I have cancer. It shapes my world and invades my space on a daily basis. Yet the fellow OM family I have had the pleasure of meeting are unparalleled! They are strong, full of grace and gratitude, humble, inspiring, genuine, rare individuals. Some have lost loved ones to this beast, yet they offer support and loving words to the rest of us while their hearts must be broken in a million pieces. Then there are the caregivers, reaching out and supporting their loved ones. Some needing to be brave enough to let go while holding a hand until the end. It is unfathomable and leaves me breathless. But there are those, untouched by disease or crisis, who are unforgiving towards others, judgemental and self-serving. If you are having a bad day, think about it, give it a new perspective and perhaps your day is not quite so bad. Be kind; be sensitive and generous to forgive. Connect with others in any small way, even if its a simple smile, and be thankful for your every TODAY! ...... I have learnt more about my inner strength, perseverance and the power of love from my daughter in the last 3 years than I learnt in my lifetime!
