Gaza: power plant destroyed, electricity and water supplies collapse. Sara Badiei, an ICRC water engineer in Gaza, describes the devastating knock-on effects of the lack of electricity for hospitals and water supplies in the Strip: ”Again the power plant was hit yesterday morning... Electricity in Gaza: 20 percent. Only pockets receive electricity and for couple of hours, not more. 3 fifths of Gaza strip have no electricity, and that includes Gaza city which right now has more than 1 million people in it. These infrastructures have to be protected; they are not a part of the conflict; they are separate, they are needed for civilians. And now everybody is affected: hospital need electricity..., telecommunication networks are extremely important. When there’s a problem somewhere the only way people can get to us is to call us by the phone, ”come and save us”. If their phone is not working, they’re ina lot of trouble. If there is no electricity, there is no water... Almost 400,000 people have been displaced.” Watch it all here: https://youtube/watch?v=u1k3GAvjBVw
