Generations running out of pre-recorded shows The pre-recorded shows for the most watched soap are running out and with no recordings taking place at the moment, fans could soon experience a blackout on the SABC 1 8 o’clock slot. Following the axing of the 16 main actors who were on strike, the show producers have not been recording anything. Executive producer Mfundi Vundla even saw this as a great time to go on a holiday to an island in Michigan, America, according to a report in a Sunday newspaper. SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says that the national broadcaster is not concerned with how the Generations production company MMSV is dealing with their matters, all they want is for Generations to air at 8 o’clock every evening. “As far as we are concerned, Generations is happening,” he says. “MMSV is in a contract with the SABC to produce Generations and if they don’t deliver, they will be going against that contract,” says Kganyago. Asked if they have systems in place to cover the 8 o’clock slot should MMSV not produce the show, Kganyago says they don’t have any plans in place as he believes MMSV will honour their contract and give them a show. “They will run out of recorded shows at some point, its not rocket science but we are not going to pre-empt anything and we will deal with issues as they happen”. He also added that they don’t have any dealings with the actors as they are employed by MMSV. “These 16 fired actors are not the only actors in the country. We did not tell them to hire these actors, they chose them because they were fitting in with their storyline,” he says.
