Generosity ... simple and unconcsious ... Palaguttapalle (Dalitwada) ... godmen and beggars and wandering ministrels who sing their songs are all given a handful of rice respectfully. The man with his colourfully adorned bull, the gangeddu, goes through villages collecting his alms. The people are rich enough in spirit to be able to give respect to the person. When destitute women come they are fed, and given some rice. Their story is listened to and people have the time to listen, and the heart to believe and commiserate. Hunger is understood and addressed and they do not have theory on evils of beggary. Or on the requirement to avoid charity ... It is for them the rains fall ... Such simple goodness is part of the fabric of indian life. This is just one village among the thousands that dot our country ... if only we, the rice and educated, could learn from them, our betters ... And give away our excess, as they give away their necessities ... Then there is enough for us all ...
