George T. McGuire George T. McGuire, 90, formerly of Sheldon, MO passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Laurie Care Center in Laurie, MO. George was born September 25, 1923 in Iantha, MO to Clyde Thomas McGuire and Susie Belle (Heryford) McGuire. He was united in marriage to Patricia Lee Kabler on December 27, 1945 in Fort Scott, KS and she preceded him in death on February 23, 2014. George was raised on numerous farms in the Sheldon area and graduated from Sheldon High School Class of 1942. Following high school he joined the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. AJAX in the South Pacific during WWII. George lived most of his life in Kansas City, KS working jobs in the Kansas City area until retirement from the Union Gas Co. George had also lived in Ft. Scott, Mound City, KS, and in Laurie for the past ten years. George was a member of the Westlake Christian Church in Laurie. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Lee Vogel and her husband Jim, Gravois Mills, MO, and Victoria Lynn Burgard, Kansas City, KS; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Runion, Independence, MO, Eleanor Ambrose and her husband Norman, Louisburg, KS; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO with Rev. Kelly Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, MO. Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at Ferry Funeral Home.
