German Monday Movies @ Outdoor Stage, MAP KL, Publika, October/November 2014 Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall All films are with English subtitles and admission is free In August 1961, the German Democratic Republic built the Berlin Wall, closing the border between East and West Berlin and also between East and West Germany. On 09 November 1989, the Berlin Wall fell. The fall of the Wall also meant the fall of the Iron Curtain, which had divided Eastern and Western Europe since the end of World War II. The Monday Movie-series wants to commemorate this historic event, which took place 25 years ago. Four award-winning films tell stories of a city and country divided, of loss and love, hope and courage and the moment when freedom was won. Monday, 27 October 2014, 8pm The Miracle of Berlin (Das Wunder von Berlin) Dir: Roland Suso Ritcher, colour, 122min, Germany 2008 Rebellious 18 year old Marco knows what he doesnt want: to be like his father Jürgen, a high ranking Stasi officer. But when he is saved from a grueling sentence in a notorious prison, he promises his father to do his military service. While his father is worried about his future, Marcos mother and girlfriend actively campaign for freedom. Soon it is 9 November 1989, and the Wall comes down, changing their lives forever.
