Given that mobile broadband is a key access point to the internet - TopicsExpress

Given that mobile broadband is a key access point to the internet in Nigeria, it is critical to ensure that spectrum policy and regulation focus on the need for more spectrum, on the fair allocation and innovative uses of spectrum, as well as the availability of free/unlicensed spectrum. Decisions on spectrum allocation, on licensing terms and conditions, and opportunities for innovation and experimentation have important implications towards the potential for affordable access to the internet in Nigeria. Do you know that it costs 285 million dollars per license, for both license and spectrum for 10 years in Nigeria???? This is expensive!!!!! Policy makers, regulators and relevant stakeholders must rise above the challenges and provide access to the internet, especially so that rural women and children can have access, not only access but ability to afford the cost of being online. In Nigeria today, spectrum is the chief barrier to competition and how can women and children afford to have internet access given that women and children are the majority of the poor, low income earners and the most uninformed in the country? #AffordableInternet
