Given the level of madness and record citizens intimidation in the South Sudanese capital Juba particularly by the national security apparatus, am afraid this recent report from the Minister of Interior; Aleu Ayieny, ordering new security measures in the form of curfew and, allegedly, that the security agents must shoot in the eye anyone night roaming the streets of Juba, will result in unintended innocence killings, God forbids. The report further alleges that the Council of Ministers, the highest level of the ruling cliques, deliberated on and actually passed the measure. One would only question if they, too, had considered the unruly behavior and the threats posed by their so-called security agents, the very people tasked with the actualization of the law and order. In the minds of many Juba residents, it even remains debatable whos more of a threat to the larger public between the witches who roam at night and the national security apparatus, the intended enforcers. This is not only unfortunate but also a sad reality that the supposedly agents of protection could not even be distinguished from true criminals. While there is nothing wrong passing or setting tougher security laws, there is every reason to be concerned especially when the law and order agents might be the one responsible for the skyrocketing insecurity in the country. Please ensure the security personnel are thoroughly disciplined and are up to the task or you are just reinforcing what they do best: unnecessary citizens intimidation and indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians!
