Glen Kwarciany writes; Iowa Interstate recently ordered a trio of GE ES44AC locomotives from General Electric. The timing of this order may be in part due to the upcoming more stringent emission standards effective January 1, 2015. One of the three motors, the 514, was sitting outside the South Amana shop this afternoon. The 515 was inside the shop, being prepped for service. The General Electric technician was at the shop, and I had a chance to speak to him briefly. He mentioned a few of the improvements GE has made compared to the earlier ES44s Iowa Interstate has. In no small part of these improvements is programming of the computer which runs nearly all of the locomotives systems. Attached are a sampling of the photos shot this cloudy Sunday. Enjoy.
