Glenda Fay Knighton Smith Breslin died of cancer, June 16, 2014 at her home in Mountain Home, Idaho. She was 69 years old, born July 14, 1944 in Idaho Falls ID, the first of seven children, to Clarence Glen Knighton of East Bountiful, Davis County, Utah and Audrey Glenda Bell of Brisbane, Australia. She grew up on the family farm near Moore, Idaho, and she attended school in Arco. She achieved her baccalaureate at the University of Idaho, where she met her husband Frank Howard Smith. They married June 16, 1965 in Idaho Falls LDS Temple for time and eternity, and they had six children. Before she resigned and moved to Boise to raise a family, Glenda taught Home Economics in Bruneau, Idaho, 1967 - 1969. After Frank died in 1985, she carried on as a single mother and managed a small vending machine business. She began attending Master of Education in Counseling classes at College of Idaho in 1988, where she met her second husband, Jim Breslin, marrying in Boise, March 1989. On graduating, she accepted a position as School Counselor with Bliss K-12 school, worked for Port of Hope and Starting Point and established Counseling Services of Mountain Home, which she owned and operated until her death. She was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many stake and ward positions. She taught family history and volunteered at the Family History Center. She served a two-year mission leading the Addiction Recovery Program. She was renowned for her work in family history, authoring several books. She made beautiful quilts for dozens of new babies. She baked delicious banana bread and orange rolls, and she went to great lengths to help people in need. Glenda was preceded in death by her first husband Frank Smith in 1985 and by her father in 2000. She is survived by her mother, Audrey and her siblings Gaven (Frances Scouten), Elona (Monte) Shelley, Janell (Rod) Watson, Nicolet (Richard) O’Keef, Korinn (Karl) Fivecoat and Ronya (Craig) Simmons; her second husband, Jim; nine children and their spouses: Kyrsten (Matthew) Bell of Boise, ID; Celestin (Rocky) Webb of Perry, GA; Rixon Smith of Chicago, IL; Brittan (Darcy Ahlberg) Smith of Boise, ID; Arlena (Mike) Sulzle of Mountain Home, ID; Perrin (Shannon Bish) Smith of Midwest City, OK; Mary (Canyon) Knop of Eglin AFB, FL; Tefton (Heather Hatch) Smith of American Fork, UT; Joanna (Antwan) Carlisle of San Antonio, TX; 29 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Viewing, Friday, June 19th, 4 to 7 PM at Rost Funeral Home and Saturday, Jun 20th, 9 to 9:45 AM at the LDS 8th Street Chapel, 1150 North 8th East; Funeral to follow at 10 AM. Arrangements handled by Rost Funeral Home in Mountain Home with interment at Meridian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Glenda expressed the desire to support either Disabled American Veterans or Elmore County Domestic Violence Council. She was a life member of the DAV Auxiliary and served as President of ECDVC for many years.
