God Has Ordained That The Soul Who Sins Shall Suffer Spiritual Death Amen! God makes it clear in the Bible that spiritual death as well as physical death are directly linked to sin. Sin being defined as a disobedient act against God. God makes it clear that death is the consequence of a disobedient act. The Lord said in, Genesis 2:17 says, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die”. God did not have many commandments for Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, but not eating of the tree of knowledge was one of God’s commandments. He also spelled out the consequence of disobeying this commandment was death. The book of Ezekiel 18:4 elaborates on this linkage between sin and death, and specifically the link between sin and spiritual death. The Lord said in, Ezekiel 18:4, says “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” Here God tells us that specifically our soul is his, and a sinful soul will die a spiritual death. An unrepentant sinner may still be physically alive, but from God’s perspective this person is spiritually dead. Though God loves all of us, he cannot be in the presence of sin and disobedience. If we sin, we become separated from God and become spiritually dead. Jesus is Lord
