God is good… You may have heard the saying, “God is good all the time. All the time God is good.” This tends to conjure the image that when you walk with God things will be good all the time. Yes, God is more than good all the time but it doesn’t mean things will go well for you all the time. Knowing how incredible He is what may actually contribute to an amplification of your suffering. As a believer your faith is a double-edged sword – it’s your strength and your weakness. You know He can end your affliction in an instant and that He’s always there. But, it may seem as if when you need Him the most is when He is there for you the least or at all (even though you know that is not the case). I recently saw a quote that mentioned a teacher being silent during a test. Do not give up on our teacher because He has not given up on you. No suffering is pointless. Keep in mind that “…suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope” Romans 5:3-4 (NIV). I know I have been to the point (several times) where I wondered how much more perseverance, character and hope I needed. My suffering was so immense that my hope turned into feelings of hopelessness. Today I realized the feelings of hopelessness was a form of suffering that restarted the cycle to increase my perseverance, character, and faith that gave me even more hope and caused me to grow. It feels good in retrospect when you see how far you have come as a result of your suffering. This is further magnified when the growth it produces is what I believe is the ultimate form of growth, growing closer to God. To be continued…
