Gods Not Dead is a recent movie about a Christian college boy who is confronted by a ham-fisted stereotype of an arrogant atheist philosophy professor. The boy debates the professor and proves to the class that Gods not dead and the broken atheist admits he really hates god and then reconverts to Christianity after a car crash. A Matter of Faith is another recent movie about a Christian girl who is seduced by the allure of science and starts to believe in evolution because of her popular atheist biology teacher. Her father, concerned for his daughters salvation, has a public debate to prove to the professor that God is real and evolution is a demonic hoax. Do you think theyll ever make a spinoff movie where the good, believing Christian goes to a deeply religious school to bolster her faith and maybe join the ministry but has her faith challenged upon realizing the ineptitude, presuppositionalism, cognitive dissonance, and apologetic side-stepping of her beloved and often earnest professors, in addition to the at-best oblivious dishonesty of the respected greatest theological minds she is required to read. And in reading the Bible over and over she discovers the incongruitities, scientific and historical discrepancies, hypocrisies, moral bankruptness, and shifty compositional history of her trusted holy book. Then she learns all the likely and well-documented psychological explanations for many religious experiences (the ones she is taught to assume are responsible for the feelings people have in other religions and some non-religious scenarios). Finally, desperately calling out to god---wanting to believe more than anything---she is disturbed by gods silence and so she becomes a skeptic. Her personality doesnt change and she feels more personally fulfilled and free but her family tells her shes just going through an immature rebellious stage and talks down to her while insisting they just never discuss it until she is willing to come around and all her friends tell her she was never a true Christian and she has to hide many of her feelings for fear of other loved ones pushing her away or not giving her a job. In the end, after a moral and humble life full of ups and downs, she dies and god sentences her to an eternity of torture in hell for her arrogance. And all of her family and friends in heaven look down and feel sad, but they did try to warn her (albeit with terrible arguments and regrettable interpersonal skills) and heaven is a happy place so they immediately forget her and worship God forever and ever and ever and ever while she burns. I bet that move would make a ton of money.
