Help To Buy reflections Most papers reflect on the developments during the week relating to the Government’s Help To Buy (H2B) scheme and the acceleration of Phase Two. More than 3,000 sales were completed under the first part of the scheme in England during its first four months and estate agents report a surge of inquiries in advance of next week’s launch of Phase 2. The Mirror maintains that H2B will not help 80% of low-paid families get on the housing ladder. The Telegraph provides a helpful guide to how H2B actually works. The FT mentions that critics of the scheme say it will inflate house prices even more, making houses ever more unaffordable for future generations and that it fails to deal with the real problem: a lack of housebuilding. It also reports that state-owned Halifax and RBS were accused of exploiting the scheme with more expensive mortgages. The Mail notes that the excitement has extended to brokers recommending the shares of RightMove.
