One of the great things about representing St.Pauls ward in - TopicsExpress

One of the great things about representing St.Pauls ward in Salisbury is the ward is so diverse architecturally in such a relatively small area. Middleton Road has seen huge changes over the years and one site in the street already has planning consents for a new block of flats but a new planning application has caused a number of residents to have concerns; services.wiltshire.gov.uk/UniDoc/Document/Search/DSA,753364 I have formally requested that my Conservative Wiltshire councillor Richard Clewer formally calls in the above application so it may be considered by the full Planning Panel. I have a number of concerns regarding the proposed development, namely; 1. Scale and massing of the building The site was previously occupied by some one and two bed c. 1920s single and two storey buildings. Although the principle of flatted development is acceptable and indeed there have been a number of other such developments in the road, this proposal will be over bearing in terms of height and dominance of character. 2. Loss of privacy and overlooking The residents of the proposed flats will be able to see into the neighbouring gardens of existing properties 3. Inappropriate design The proposals take no design cues off the existing flats in the road nor of the neighbouring properties which are predominantly Victorian terrace in character and no attempt to use local materials in keeping with the area has been made. 4. Lack of cycling rack provision. 5. Lack of affordable housing and developer contribution to schooling provision. Residents who wish to make representations can contact Wiltshire Council direct or email me at [email protected] My picture shows the cover of the book by John Watts on the Salisbury gas works that can be seen at the end of Middleton Street.
