Gold plated Aston Martin DB5 auctioned off for RM 292,005 Fans of the Bond film, Goldfinger instantly recognise the Aston Martin DB5 as one of the most iconic cars in the films franchise. With Sean Connery at the wheel, tinkering away at the many gadgets available, it just oozed cool appeal and immortalised the association of the Aston Martin brand with 007. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary film, Aston Martin commissioned Propshop at Pinewood Studios to create this 1:3 scale replica of the DB5 plated in 24-karat gold. The car also bears the signature of Sir Ken Adam, who designed the original movie prop for the film. And just like in the movie, the model comes complete with radio-controlled machine guns, bullet-proof shield and revolving number plate. That makes it one of the coolest scaled model cars we’ve ever seen. With international interest from 129 countries, the model was finally auctioned off on 17 September 2014 for a cool £55,000 and the proceeds were donated to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
