Good Afternoon Dragoon Family Members and Friends – Lots of - TopicsExpress

Good Afternoon Dragoon Family Members and Friends – Lots of great stuff going on across the Battalion today so I’ll get right to it: First and foremost congratulations goes out to the Bravo Bulldogs on completing 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training! I heard from several folks already today that last night’s Warrior Banquet was great and that this morning’s graduation ceremony was also a wonderful experience. Very proud of our Bulldog Soldiers and their Cadre for all their hard work! Congratulations also go out to the Delta Dawgs on completing their final Field Training Exercise (FTX) this afternoon. Shortly they’ll be stepping off on their 16 kilometer (about 9.5 mile) foot march into the Rites of Passage ceremony. This moving ceremony marks their transition from citizen volunteer to member of the Army Profession of Arms. It is one of THE signature events of Basic Combat Training and signifies that they’ve achieved their goal of becoming a U.S. Army Soldier! I’m very sorry that I’m not able to be a part of these two memorable moments today. I can’t be there because I’m currently with members of the 7th Armored Division – our regimental veterans who fought their way across Europe during World War II. Just to be around the 23rd, 38th, and 48th Armored Infantry Battalion veterans listening to them talk about their experiences is amazing. Attending reunions such as these are important because today’s Soldiers are the legacy those before us created through their blood, sweat, tears, courage, valor, and sacrifice. I am truly humbled and honored to be among them for the next few days. I also want to send a quick ‘Shout Out’ to our Family Members and Friends with Soldiers a bit further in their Basic Combat Training experience (or graduated) who’ve been answering new Family Member questions or pointing them to where they can find the information out as well. You are all playing a key role in helping new Family Members navigate their ‘first deployment’ away from their Soldier. On to today’s training update: Bravo Bulldogs (Week 10): As mentioned in the opening – the Bulldogs culminated 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training this morning with their graduation ceremony. We hope all the Bulldog Family Members, Friends, and Soldiers have a great time today. Please remember to be safe and return back to the barracks on time tonight! Charlie Comanches (Week 1): It’s the Comanches first day of ‘real’ training day here in BCT. They begin learning to work as team members today with the Team Development Course. Working with their squad, Soldiers have to negotiate a series of mentally and physically challenging obstacles. Delta Dawgs (Week 9): It’s been a successful week out at FTX III for the Delta Dawgs. They’re just about done and will be heading back in tonight on their 16 kilometer (about 9.5 mile) tactical foot march into the Rites of Passage ceremony. Sad to be missing one of my most favorite Basic Combat Training events. Foxtrot Warriors (Week 6): The Foxtrot Warriors proved themselves up to the task yesterday during Basic Rifle Marksmanship qualification achieving a 97% end of the day qualification rate - Well done! No rest for them today though as they headed out this morning for their second Field Training Exercise starting with a 12 kilometer (about 7 mile) tactical foot march. During the FTX they’ll build on the lessons learned earlier in training and put them to use in a field setting. Over the next two days they’ll execute basics of field craft – occupying an assembly area, priorities of work, preparing fighting positions, tactical movements, and battle drills – react to contact, squad attack, break contact, react to ambush, and react to indirect fire. These are all basic Soldier skills that will keep your Soldier alive on today’s battlefield regardless of his / her MOS. They’ll also spend the night out in the woods! Here’s to an awesome Thursday! “By Force and Valor!” LTC Anderson, Dragoon 6
