Good Evening Weather Watchers...... A oppressive warm day today with it hard to feel cool even in the best of airconditioning. We havent seen too much rain developing yet but we do expect late this evening/ early tomorrow that that will change. With King tides set for tomorrow and Friday mornings all those in low lying areas please take precautions and take care...........Below is your forecast for tomorrow _____________________________________________________ This is the Official Forecast for Thursday 30th of January 2014 for Gladstone to Cooktown and west to Mt Isa. ____________________________________________________ Weather Situation A monsoon trough extends through the Gulf of Carpentaria into Cape York Peninsula and across the northern Coral Sea to a developing tropical low in the Coral Sea. The tropical low is expected to deepen over the next couple of days and move westwards towards the Queensland coast. Forecasts are highly dependent on the development and movement of this system. A high over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast to the south of the monsoon trough. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Frequent squally showers and possible thunderstorms about the east tropical coast and central coast, increasing to rain late evening, with moderate to heavy falls likely. Scattered showers and thunderstorms should occur elsewhere through the eastern tropics, though to tending to rain areas across the far northern Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms through the tropical interior and the Gulf Country district. Isolated to scattered showers along the remaining east coast. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Strong to gale force east to southeasterly winds about the east coast north of Fraser Island. Mostly moderate easterly winds over remaining parts of the state, tending moderate to fresh west to northwesterly in the far north. Thursday 30 January Frequent squally showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls likely, for large parts of the eastern tropics and the central coast, extending inland into northern parts of the central interior and the southern tropical interior during the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms through the remaining tropics, tending to rain areas across the far northern Peninsula. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing over remaining inland parts north of Emerald and east of Richmond. Isolated to scattered showers along the remaining east coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Strong to gale force east to southeasterly winds about the east coast north of the Sunshine Coast. Mostly moderate easterly winds over remaining parts of the state, tending moderate to fresh west to northwesterly in the far north. Fire Danger - Very High to Severe Fire Dangers over western districts and the southern and central interior. Friday 31 January The forecast at this stage is still highly dependent on the development and movement of the tropical low, which at this point in time is most likely to make landfall during the morning. Squally showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls, are likely to occur about the southern tropics, the Central Coast and Capricornia districts, extending inland to parts of the central and tropical interior. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over remaining parts of the tropics, tending to rain areas in the far north due to strengthening monsoonal flow. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms should develop through the northwest and remaining central districts as the tropical low moves further inland. Isolated to scattered showers are likely to persist about remaining eastern districts in the onshore wind flow. Fine and partly cloudy conditions should occur elsewhere. Saturday 1 February The forecast at this stage is still highly dependent on the movement of the tropical low, though the low is likely to move into the southern tropical or central interior with showers, rain areas and thunderstorms about the southern tropics and the Central Coast and the Capricornia districts, extending inland to parts of the tropical and central interior and the far west. Moderate to heavy falls are possible through the southern tropics and about the Central Coast and northern central interior as the monsoon trough extends east from the tropical low. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over remaining parts of the tropics, tending to rain areas in the far north due to the monsoonal flow. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to extend south to a line that extends from approximately Birdsville to Gladstone as a moist unstable airmass wraps around the tropical low. Isolated to scattered showers are likely to persist about remaining eastern districts in the onshore wind flow. Fine and partly cloudy conditions should occur elsewhere. Sunday 2 February The forecast is still highly dependent on the movement of the tropical low, though the low is likely to move west into the Northwest district while the monsoon trough is likely to move north from the Central Coast into the northern tropics. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to persist across the north, with the possibility of moderate to heavy falls near the monsoon trough. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms should also occur through central parts and the far west, although this activity should decrease during the day as the monsoon trough shifts north. Much of the southern half of the state should remain mostly fine, although showers may continue about the east coast in the onshore flow. ____________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Cloudy.
