Good Morning, Family. Its Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled! Tuesday 4 Proverbs 4:23-27 The Message (MSG) Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip. Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust. Last week, a friend asked me how I guard my heart. I first responded by saying that its not instant or overnight. Its a process. I then told them about an analogy that I was taught by my Pastor, Bishop Dickie L. Robbins. He once asked us, How would you feel, if someone came to your house and dumped all of their trash in your living room? After our responses were, Id stop them., Id be mad. etc.; he continued, Then why would you allow people to come to you and dump their emotional trash on your minds? That was years ago. As I was driving the other day, I thought about that conversation with my friend and the lesson learned from Bishop Robbins. Then, The Holy Spirit spoke to me. He said, You have to be your own spiritual EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). You must guard you heart against having waste dumped on it or in it. As I smiled and committed the comments to memory, I was reminded of last Tuesdays post. Then The Holy Spirit reminded me of Proverbs 18:21. He said, Part of the reason why life and death are in the power of the tongue is because, the tongue can be used to set a forest on fire. James 3:5-6 in The Message says, A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell. However, thats no reason to let our hearts be troubled. The reason is because, in the same way someone can start a fire with their tongue; we can extinguish a fire with our tongue! I suppose thats why He reminded me of Smokey Bear last week. Its Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled! Tuesday, Family. Lets guard and protect our hearts or forests, by putting out some fires!
