Good Morning India Media (GMI), the company that looks after the print publications of the media house owned by Kartik Sharma, son of former Union Minister Venod Sharma, has launched a Hindi newspaper ‘Aaj Samaj’ in Delhi. Minister for Information and Broadcasting, P R Dasmunsi, inaugurated the newspaper at a function recently. The newspaper is priced at Rs 2 and is a 20-page all colour daily. Noted journalist and writer Madhukar Upadhaya is the Editor of Aaj Samaj. Sharma, the company’s Managing Director, described the newspaper as an idea whose time had come. “GMI will launch eight editions of Aaj Samaj within one year, besides news channels and FM stations in the near future,” he added. Speaking at the launch of the paper, Dasmunsi said, “Freedom of the press has come under threat as journalists are being asked to write what the management wants. This will seriously undermine Article 19 of the Constitution guaranteeing basic freedom.” The launch function was attended by Union Minister for Personnel, Suresh Pachauri, AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi, Haryana Chief Minister B S Hooda, and legal luminary Ram Jethmalani, among a host of other dignitaries.
