Good Tuesday morning! The weather around here can be interesting - TopicsExpress

Good Tuesday morning! The weather around here can be interesting as we all know and I have a great example for you. Yesterday, we had plenty of sunshine, but it was COLD as Arctic air was in place and we only saw an official high of 33 degrees! Today, we will have a large expanse of high cloud cover and it will look cold...but with a warm front backing over us and our winds swinging around to the southwest at 10-20 mph, expect it to be warmer with a high of 60! So, in summary, it looked warm yesterday, but wasnt. Today, it will look cold, but wont be. You can see the attached KVII Computer Model forecast showing all kinds of cloud cover! A cold front will blow through the area tonight and switch our southwest winds around to the northwest at 5-15 mph and we will start our morning off tomorrow around 27 degrees. We will keep that layer of high clouds overhead tonight and into the day tomorrow as well. Whats funny about tomorrows weather is that it will look cold...and it will BE cold with high temperatures only rising into the 30s and 40s thanks to another surge of cold, Canadian air moving in behind tonights cold front. Skies will be partly to occasionally mostly cloudy and breezy northerly winds at 15-25 mph with some higher gusts possible will create wind chills in the single digits and teens to begin the day tomorrow....so bundle up accordingly! The area of high cloud cover will stick with us on Thursday and just like today....it will look cold, but it wont be as high temperatures soar back into the upper 50s to the mid 60s as another quick warm-up occurs as southerly and southwesterly winds at 10-20 mph prevail. Yesterday, it looked like we would have two distinct rain chances and the computer models were in pretty good agreement that this would happen. Well, things have changed a bit over the last 24 hours. Now, they agree that the rain chance for Friday isnt looking all that great as the upper-level disturbance (pocket of cold air aloft) passes us by to the southeast. Now, dont get me wrong. This is great news for the folks who live in/around Abilene and Wichita Falls who need the rainfall as well....but it looks like unless you live in/around Childress, Paducah, Quanah or Memphis, we probably wont see any rainfall from this first storm system. If you look at the attached Deterministic Computer Model Data, you can see that only a trace to a tenth of an inch of rain is possible anyway, but anything is better than nothing! TGI Friday will start off with cloud cover, but end with mostly sunny skies by the afternoon hours as high temperatures rise to around 60 degrees by late day. A wind shift line will push through giving us northerly winds at 10-20 mph, but no cooling effects of this north wind will occur. Saturday will a day in-between storm systems as Fridays storm moves by and another storm system heads our way. We will see mostly sunny skies Saturday morning with increasing cloud cover by Saturday afternoon. High temperatures may be a degree or two cooler, but that wont occur due to any cold front as northerly winds at 5-15 mph shift around to the south at 5-15 mph in the afternoon hours. Sundays weather still looks like we might see a few showers, but the rain chances (and amounts) dont look as good as they did yesterday! The Canadian Computer Model (attached) is the wettest this morning with a large swath of rain right over us Sunday around Noon. The European Computer Model and the GFS arent buying this. Granted, the European is still showing some light showers around here, but the GFS isnt buying this at ALL! Lets hope that the GFS is wrong and the European and Canadian are right! One interesting note is that the European, with its better rain chances, are still showing about .25 or less...High temperatures will rise into the 50s as southerly morning winds at 10-20 mph shifts around to the north at 10-20 mph as yet another cold front blows through. We will head back to work and school next Monday with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures only rising to the mid 40s to the lower 50s by late day. Winds will blow from the north at 10-20 mph in the morning, then decrease and shift to the northeast at 5-15 mph in the afternoon hours. Next Tuesday will also be sunny with mostly sunny skies, but more cold air filters into the area on north and northeast winds at 5-15 mph prevail. High temperatures primarily in the 40s will occur with the Childress area possibly reaching 50 degrees by late day. So, thats a look at your weather for THIS Tuesday! Take care, stay warm and have a great day! Ill see you again tomorrow morning with another forecast discussion!
