Good morning everyone, Excellent progress over the past 12 - TopicsExpress

Good morning everyone, Excellent progress over the past 12 hours. Both pain and nausea are being kept in check. While Mom and sister gave me some relief last night (thank you), Eileen did a little walk around the ward to get things moving. She had a lovely sleep and woke up hungry! With the nausea subsiding Eileen was able to get some pureed fruit smoothie in her system. Still some trouble swallowing anything other than soft foods, but she can now take her oral pills without needing them crushed. Progress! Eileen amazed me this morning by wiggling her way out of bed, getting up and waddling over to the washroom. I noticed that her getting into and out of bed was dramatically improved over yesterday. Far less pain and much more strength. If you can believe it, the doctors are saying theres a real possibility of going home tomorrow. From a safety perspective, if Eileen stays the same (or improves) today, I think it would be reasonable to talk about a discharge. We are in no rush however. Lets be sure that home is as or more comfortable than the hospital. The Occupational Therapist summed things up nicely. You didnt have a setback, you just had an unheard-of first day. Day 2 was hard, day 3 was harder, but day 4 is shaping up to be a good one. The comments from our nurse cousins and tumor survivors echoed the OTs statement and gave Eileen (and our family!) some much needed validation that this was to be expected. Thanks again to the loving family who are helping with the kiddies at home, the friends assisting with meals and chores, and to our Facebook friends for the support and love.
