Good morning from KTJS News ITS CLEAR IN HOBART. 40 DEGREES WITH SW WIND AT 9. The Kiowa County Sheriffs Department is investigating a cattle theft in eastern Kiowa county and has made three recent drug related arrests, one of which included a case of concealing a stolen vehicle charge. Sheriff Bill Lancaster says the cattle theft was reported yesterday from property about 8 miles south of Mt View. The cattle are branded with a backward letter S with a bar on the top. They are branded on the right hip. The drug related arrests started last Thursday when deputies conducted a search warrant on a residence in Cooperton. The warrant revealed the occupants of the house possessed methamphetamine, but only one person was at home during the raid. Stephanie Johnson was arrested for possession of meth and drug parapheneralia. Deputies requested and received a warrant for the arrest of Coby Berry who had lived at the home. Friday morning, Mt View Police Chief, Eddie Williams apprehended Berry at a convenience store. Berry was transport to and booked into the Kiowa County Jail. Friday afternoon, deputies conducted a traffic stop in Roosevelt and recovered more methamphetamine. The driver, Mert Owen Buchannan was arrested for possession of the drug and parahenalia. Buchannan was also charged with concealing stolen property. The case stems from a vehicle which was taken from a pasture in the Mt View area, then sold at Hodges Recycling in Lawton. Sheriff Lancaster said he and his deputies are currently working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Comanche County Sheriffs Department to close additional cases involving thefts in Kiowa County. The sheriff said, I expect there will be more arrests...out deputies are working hard to get the last pieces of the puzzle together. The Kiowa County Industrial Development Authority had a meeting scheduled Tuesday, but did not attain a quorem. No official business was conducted, but there was some informal discussion. Chairman Tom Talley reported on the upcoming Celebration of Freedom event in Hobart. Jimmy Teepee of Lone wolf announced the Lone Wolf Independence Day Celebration will be held Saturay June 28th. He said the parade will be moved to the evening to avoid some of the heat. Live entertainment will be provided by Roy Lee Scott of Altus and by the Quicksilver Band. Talley noted that the IESI company is moving part of its activities from the red warehouse on Washington Sreet to the former 183 recyclers location in Hobarts Industrial Park. He said SESACO is expanding its operations after having been acquired by a multinational company and will be adding some use of the former IESI warehouse. Talley said he expcts SESACO will increase its employment in Hobart. Filing period for state and county elective offices begins today. County candidates file with your county election board and state office seekers file in Oklahoma City. About 500 candidats are expected to file across the state. The Hobart Church of Christ will have a garage sale type event in which the items will be completely free. The event will be at the old fellowship hall of the church at 202 South Washington this Saturday form 8am till noon. Look for the signs and come see what you can find. The three-day filing period runs from 8 a.m. Wednesday until 5 p.m. Friday. More than 300 elective positions are up for grabs, including both U.S. Senate seats, all of the five congressional seats, and statewide offices, including governor and lieutenant governor. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma City Zoo officials say a 6-month-old female giraffe with a terminal heart defect has died during surgery. Kyah had an extra blood vessel wrapped around her esophagus that prevented her from holding down solid food. Kyah was euthanized during surgery when surgeons realized she would not overcome complications of the hourslong surgery. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — For the second year in a row, the Oklahoma state Capitol has made a list of the most endangered places in the state. The nonprofit organization Preservation Oklahoma list of Oklahomas most endangered places recognizes historic sites across Oklahoma at risk of demolition or deterioration and raises awareness about the need to preserve them.
