Gordon Ramsay: So, what have you made for us here? Contestant: I have prepared for you a bowl of kosher salt, toasted all by itself in a cast iron pan, and finished with a dash of sea salt. Ramsay: I see. Well, heres the thing. Youve truly elevated this kosher salt. It is beautifully seasoned with the sea salt. It brings just the right balance to the base. Contestant: Thank you. Ramsay: If I had one nitpick, itd be that you didnt season the sea salt. Right? Its important that you make sure every element of your dish sings with proper seasoning to bring out those flavors and make them pop. Contestant: I thought the sea salt was good on its own, that its own natural saltiness could come through. Ramsay: Yeah, but how can you even taste it if its not seasoned? The sea salt is doing well at uplifting the flavors of the kosher salt. But when I get a taste of the sea salt all on its own, its just bland. Contestant: Maybe I could have added some Himalayan salt to the sea salt, just to bring out its flavor. Ramsay: At this point in the competition, we expect every thing to be salted, including the salt salting the salt. You did a good job on the cook and presentation. Its a good effort. But its quite a shame as you could have had a perfect dish. Contestant: Or maybe this show has gotten a little carried away with the salinity standards. Ramsay: What did you say? Youre not even listening. Damn. What a waste. Were not going to declare the best home chef in America is someone who cant even admit when his salt is under seasoned. Contestant: This is truly absurd. Ramsay: You had better hope that someone else did even worse, perhaps forgetting to salt their salt altogether. Someone is going home tonight.
