Govt deploys 29 new magistrates: Twenty nine new Grade One magistrates were on Friday sworn-in and immediately posted to their workstations across the country. Another 17 judicial officers, among them registrars, have separately been transferred to cover gaps upcountry. This latest recruitment is the largest single for Grade One magistrates in many years, and brings their number countrywide to 163, far less than the required 336 for the 112 districts. While officiating at the swearing-in function that was held at the High Court in Kampala, acting Chief Justice Steven Kavuma called upon the new magistrates to be “servants, but not masters” to those seeking justice.
