Gratitude 8/24 1. I think I figured out a trick for this gratitude thing. Call it a little self deception if you want but it helped today. I started feeling a little lonely and feeling a sense of loss... I guess I was thinking about how many times love has eluded me or just teased me with a couple months of showing me the possible. Then I start in with the yucky stuff. Today I managed to stop there and start a slightly better self talk... I like my alone time, I like being able to plan a motorcycle trip and not have to clear it with anyone. That was a good start. I continued with a little self ego boosting. Hey at least Ive had an impact... at least Ive sat at the table and pushed my chips around. Oddly enough, even though I knew it wasnt taking care of that lonely part of the feeling, I actually did feel better. Im explaining this really poorly. Maybe Ill try this explanation thing again sometime. 2. Ive been taking a break from watching and constantly reading the news. Im finding that Im kind of grateful for not always getting more bad news. I know theres still a ton of crap going on but I dont always need to be angry over Citizens United or the ridiculous assaults on womens reproductive rights. Ive actually been watching lots more of those videos showing sportsmanship, random kindness, etc. I got all mushy watching this wrestler at a prestigious event carefully helping his opponent (with downs syndrome) orchestrate a victory over himself. Listening to his mom relate the event and how grateful she was for that simple act of kindness made me all crazy teary. 3. For my third one today, I just waned to recognize that my new glasses are in and Im looking forward to picking them up tomorrow. Should make a difference for reading. Im looking forward to less headaches, less blurriness, etc. Who knows, maybe it will even make me look more distinguished?? hehe
