Greasy Spoon: What is, or was, your favorite Greasy Spoon? You know the place: Flo, behind the counter, and Henry, slaving over the hot grill. They are or were usually open 24/7 and breakfast was/is always available. There was usually a cigarette machine at the end of the counter. When you walked in, Flo poured you a cup black coffee in a beige mug and handed you a menu dotted with Ketchup, Mustard, or Jelly. The aromas wafting through the air were of frying Bacon or Burgers, mixed with the smoke of a Pall Mall from the guy sitting at the counter, talking to his mug of black Coffee, you remember the place! They had names, like Tip Top Cafe, or Smittys, maybe Mikes Cafe. The food was usually the same: Breakfast of Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, or Sliced Ham, with Potatoes and Toast; Lunch, Burgers and Fries with a side of Cole Slaw or maybe a Tuna Sandwich and a bowl of Chili. Dinner was Fried Chicken and Fries and Soup of the Day. The menus rarely changed. I would enjoy hearing about your favorite Greasy Spoon and dont forget to tell us about their daily specials.
