Great Super Bowl ....... food. That was the sorriest excuse for entertainment that Ive endured in a long time. Thereve been Super Bowl busts in the past but they were long enough ago that I dont remember the specifics but the best thing I can say about last night is that I dont live in and wasnt visiting Denver. That had to be a solid four hours of manic depression even among the mentally sound. Of course every year we have our two weeks of slicing, dicing, dissecting, bloviating, predicting and betting on the next World Champion of the United States and today its the autopsies. I remember once that John Cleese of Monty Python fame said that one big difference between the U.S. and the U.K. is that when they have a world championship they invite the other countries. But back to the autopsies. I watched the postgame last night and lots of ESPN this morning and the one thing nobody touched on was the one thing that struck me last night watching the game and that is - if you were a Broncos fan, there wasnt one single point in the game when you had anything to cheer about. I mean it. Not one point where you could jump out of your seat and yell yay. Not yeah. Not nothing. I dont know when thats happened before. Ok, you got a touchdown when you were already down 36 - 0. By then, you knew it was over. If someone at the party did cheer, everyone else probably told him to shutup. Ive been emotionally invested in four Super Bowls. Two Eagles and two Bengals and Im 0 for 4 but at least there were glimmers of hope and reason to get excited before the big letdown. Die Lewis Billups! Never mind, he did. The Broncos didnt have anything approaching an exciting PLAY. Not on offense, not on defense, not on special teams. Nowhere. I honestly think that was the worst football game Ive ever seen. But at least that makes it memorable. I guess.
