Great fencing from both Team USA members, yesterday!!! In the quarterfinals, Lee faced the legend of Womens Fencing, Valentina Vezzali (ITA), and gave her a great fight, jumping to 4:1 lead. Valentina, who is twice as old as 20 year old Lee, showed her experience, change the course of the bout, and was able to stop up and coming American one step away from the podium 15:12. After defeating teammate Race Imboden, Gerek ran into serious challenges in the first period of the quarter-final bout against Aleksey Cheremisinov (RUS). Alexey was on fire yesterday, and built a very solid 8:1 lead. In the 2nd period, Gerek was able to pull it together after the break, but finished short of the medal. Final score: 9:15. PS. Alexey Cheremisinov ended 19 year long Russian GOLD Medal drought in Individual Mens Foil, that began after his coach, Dmitry Shevchenko, earned a place on top of the podium in Hague, Netherlands.
