Great read from Coach Dan.... Have a look and be inspired :-) Apologises for the monster message. Stop reading now if you have no interest in what I do or are busy............................ But wanted to get something off my chest...................... Having witnessed an awesome Strongwoman event at the Commando Temple yesterday it highlighted something which I thought was worth sharing...... I may be wrong!! All coaches/trainers are taught that the needs of each client/athlete all differ. Good coaches take this on board and write specific programs, rep systems, tempos and make exercise selections for each individual. The better ones then support it with personalised macro nutrient nutrition plans, set with specific calorific requirements and supplementation programs for their clients to meet their goals....... But great coaches look way beyond the gym and kitchen....... and this is where your going to have to bare with me! They delve into the environments, step into their clients/athletes shoes and look from their point of view what the limiting factor is stopping this person from becoming the best they can be. There are many......... but this message is about Support. Support that some clients/athletes will take for granted (I have been guilty of this in the past as many of you probably have too) and that some coaches/athletes will never even realise plays such a huge role in the overall success of the client or themselves. We are not all blessed with amazing social support systems. Supportive family, friends and colleges who make sticking to strict meal plans and unforgiving, unsocial training regimes are not there for everyone. We as coaches must carefully identify the guys who feel like theyre on their own through this journey and provide an environment and system where these guys feel the love, whether it be a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen. Im blessed that within our facility we have like minded individuals who, within the environment which has been created (hats off SC), can thrive off each other and realise no matter what their particular predicament, theyre not alone. Not strange for having goals, not a black sheep or different for rejecting social and peer pressures and not wanting to be propping up the bar with friends every week. These Athletes/Clients who feel the love will be hugely psychologically better off. Without getting too scientific, this will allow their body to operate more on its Parasympathetic system. Which will help them to recover properly and improve the quality of sleep, digest and take the nourishment from their food, train harder and improve physiologically (stronger, faster, more powerful) and finally reduce anxiety and stress which in turn will help insulin resistance/sensitivity (a key player in weight loss/gain) In a day and age where every Tom, Dick and Harry are providing training and nutrition programs online it is important that we remember we are training a person. A multifaceted complex individual with potentially many insecurities and weaknesses. Support is what we all need and the best coaches are there day in day out, present (in every sense of the word) when they are spoken to, caring and provide a service that is beyond a service. As a coach, by providing this one simple mechanism you could be taking away what could be the limiting factor for someone achieving their goals, their greatness.
