Fanya COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE SANTEE EDUCATION COMPLEX (HIGH SCHOOL), LOS ANGELES ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools (the Partnership) was founded in 2007 as the cornerstone of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s strategy to improve education in Los Angeles. An independent, nonprofit organization, the Partnership contracts with LAUSD to transform and turn around historically under‐performing schools in LAUSD. The Partnership currently manages 17 schools in three communities – Boyle Heights (East LA), Central LA (south of downtown), and Watts – and serves approximately 16,000 students. It is the only major school turnaround organization operating at scale in California. For more information, please visit partnershipLA.org. SANTEE EDUCATION COMPLEX Santee High School opened in 2005, located near downtown Los Angeles, and serves 1,820 students (grades 9‐12), 93% of whom are Latino, 38% English Language Learners and 73% economically disadvantaged. Santee has three small learning communities or theme‐based schools on campus that are organized around a specific interest, enabling the school to provide personalized instruction to smaller groups of students. Santee students boast many accomplishments, including winning the United Nations Foundation Global Debates contest, and a strong athletic program, which has produced basketball, track and soccer league champions. COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE POSITION The Community Representative will serve as a resource to parents, students and school staff. One (1) part‐time position is available for 2013‐2014. Community Representative will work five (5) hours a day, subject to change. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist parents and guardians of incoming students in the enrollment/registration process. Interpret to individuals or groups the community attitudes, needs and desires as they relate to the school. Incorporate community attitudes and ideas into suggestions and proposals regarding the most effective utilization of facilities, methods and materials to meet school needs. Participate with committees as members or advisers in matters concerning school programs and the community. Participate in meeting and individual discussions with students, parents, community organizations. Write and speak on school‐community relations. Perform related duties as assigned. Community Representative Job Description, July 2013 Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalency Have a valid California Driver’s license and the ability to travel to different sites and locations Experience working or participating with parent groups or agencies Understanding of the attitudes, desires and the needs of the Santee Education Complex community Interest in the total educational process including curriculum, student health and safety, and school policies Facility in oral and written communication Ability to write clear and concise reports Appropriate manner including poise, tact, good judgment, and ability to work effectively with school personnel, parents and students Desirable Skills: Bilingual Spanish preferred How to Apply: Please submit a resume and cover letter to [email protected].
