Guardians fear for 2 boys missing from orphanage: DC | Shilpa P. | 26th Oct 2013 Mysore: For these two boys a major tragedy struck five years ago when their mother was raped and murdered and later their father committed suicide. Their poverty stricken guardians (the mother’s elder sister and her husband) sought the help of the then DC Manivannan and got them placed in an institution registered with Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD). But now the guardians allege that the children have gone missing from the institution and its authorities are refusing to divulge any information regarding their whereabouts. They allege the children are being given for adoption without their consent. According to enquiries made by Deccan Chronicle the children are said to have been transferred to an institution in Bengaluru, without the consent of guardians and the authorities are reluctant to divulge this information. The reason for shifting is not clear. But according to child rights experts, it is a violation of Juvenile Justice Act to transfer children to another city, that too without the consent of the guardians. “We are poor; we can neither bring them up well nor can provide good education. But we want to monitor their well being from a distance. We fought so much to ensure that the children get good education, and with so much trust we left them with the institution. For the last six months we are going there almost daily to enquire, but we are not being shown our children. In fact we are being ill-treated by the authorities,” lament the guardians Nataraj and Neelamma, both group D employees at Alanahalli gram panchayat here. “It was on 23 July, 2008, Chamundi, wife of Ramesh, a group D employee at Turuganur gram panchayat in T Narsipur taluk, was raped and murdered, and her husband too committed suicide followed by the incident, orphaning Ullas (3) and Anand (2). After the incident me, my husband and Karnataka State B. R. Ambedkar Adi Dravida Yuvakara Abhivruddhi Mahasangha activists staged a protest in front of District Commissioner’s office. The then DC Manivannan issued orders on August 18, 2008 to the officials of Women and Child Development to educate and rehabilitate the children. As Mysore doesn’t have Shishu Mandira where children below six years could be placed, the CWC here houses them at Bapuji Children’s home and later shifts them to Government home for boys. When Deccan Chronicle contacted Bapuji Children’s home, they were reluctant to divulge any information and passed on the buck to CWC. At last DWCD Deputy Director R. Vijay told this newspaper that the children were shifted to Vaatsalya Charitable Trust in Bengaluru in 2011.
