Guernsey FC FA Cup Dream Alive: #60Saviours Campaign A Huge Success Guernsey FC will continue with its application to enter the FA Cup with Budweiser and The FA Trophy, after a phenomenal response to the club’s #60Saviours campaign. On Thursday, the club asked local businesses or individuals to pledge £100 per game in each competition, to underwrite any losses the club could face, due to Football Association financial terms imposed on the club in the competitions. The FA has advised that if ‘The Green Lions’ want to play in the competitions, then not only does the club have to cover all the travel the costs of its opponents, but Guernsey FC has to also give its opposition half of any net gate receipts without taking into account the travel and accommodation costs. The FA also says that if a tie in Guernsey has to be postponed due to adverse weather, then the game will be replayed in the UK at a ground that Guernsey FC has to hire at its own cost before the following Thursday of the original fixture. If an away tie results in a draw, the replay will have to be played under the same conditions, in the UK at a ground hired by GFC. The FA has also stipulated that in order to play in the FA Cup, Guernsey FC has to play in the FA Trophy. Thanks to the response of the campaign, Guernsey FC will proceed with its entry into both cups. ‘We’ve been absolutely blown away by the response,’ says Guernsey FC Chairman, Steve Dewsnip. ‘In just a few days we’ve exceeded the pledges we need to start our journeys in the FA Cup and the FA Trophy. This campaign proves that the people of Guernsey are firmly behind our community club and Guernsey FC is a product and brand that businesses want to be associated with. We can’t thank ‘The Saviours’ enough. It’s down to them all that we can continue with our endeavors to bring FA Cup and FA Trophy football to the Channel Islands. We can’t wait to be involved in these iconic football competitions.’ Guernsey FC Director and Football Secretary Mark Le Tissier says there have been pledges from all types of businesses and individuals. ‘This campaign has shown us just how far the club has come in its short history, with so many companies and individuals pledging hundreds, if not thousands, to the cause,’ says Mr. Le Tissier. ‘We’ve even had people who hadn’t heard of Guernsey FC before they learnt of our situation and felt compelled enough to pledge. We’ve had some fantastic moments since our formation and this ranks up there with the very best.’ Head Coach Tony Vance says the team won’t need any extra motivation to take to the pitch in the competitions. ‘The result of this campaign is very humbling and makes me proud to be a part of Guernsey Football Club,’ says Mr. Vance. ‘When we were handed our heavy fixture schedule at the end of last season, it motivated the boys to achieve the impossible and gain back-to-back promotions under extreme circumstances. The result of this campaign will spur us on in the same way. The fact that so many businesses and members of the public have put their hands in their pockets for the club is beyond extraordinary. Just a few years ago, the players and coaches would have thought it impossible, for a team from the Channel Islands to play in the FA Cup. To be involved would be something we would all treasure, when we look back at our footballing careers in the years to come. Thank you to everyone who’s pledged and we won’t let you down on the pitch.’ The following companies and individuals pledged to the Guernsey FC #60Saviours Campaign: The Guernsey Press Hook Survey Lloyds TSB Seven Investment Management Cherry Godfrey Ormering Fusion Nightclub Confiance Evans & Co Matthew Le Tissier Southport DJ David Packman Travel Solutions 1st Central Group Deputy Darren Duquemin Duques Garage Steve Denning Seb & Cara Fitzpatrick Paul & Viv Schreibke Ounsworth Décor Lin & Mike Walker Paul O’Neil & Kevin Boscher Naftel Associates Channel Welders Peter Grange Coast Media Intransit Alliance Ashton Barnes & Tee Steve Sharman Manzur Hairdressers Intertrust Storm Force Odey Wealth John Thompson Autorestorers Cars.gg The Old Firm R A Rossborough John Burgess Praxis Group Creasey’s Pat Merriman New Phase Construction Beau Vallon Holiday Apartments Saumarez Park Café Adie Northey Sam Fusellier (Syndicate) Andre Austin The Doghouse Guernsey Mint Albert Good Barras Car Centre Pete’s Castles David Farrimond Monty Waterman Trim Dog Heritage Group Heritage Insurance Brokers Sail & Surf Bob & Debbie Loaring C Bishop Roofing Dave Anderson Hairtek Eric Graham International Administration Group IAG Glen Pontin Angela Graham Guernsey PC 12 Note – 5 pledgers wished to remain anonymous.
