Gumare infrastructural development complete The senior assistant council secretary for Okavango Sub district council, Mr Onthatile Molelu has said the Gumare Infrastructural Development projects have been completed. In an interview recently, Mr Molelu mentioned that the P178 million projects which included internal roads were expected to be handed over to the council by the contractor at the end of this month. He said the developments have brought a facelift to Gumare. ‘’The bus rank is going to have a positive economic impact to the locals in terms of business growth like taxis, hawkers and those who are going to rent the stalls,” he said He further mentioned that since the bus rank would experience an influx of people coming in and out of Gumare through buses, the youth and other vulnerable or under privileged groups of people were going to be given preferences in renting the bus rank stalls. These stalls, he said, would be rented on an annual basis on a renewable contract. “I’m happy to say that in future the unused space that is within the bus rank is going to be used for holding events in order for the bus rank to generate money for the council. These could include events like the market day,’’ he said. On another note, he said the bus rank would be a relief from the normally used Motswere tree, which was a bit of an inconvenience. Mr Sisco Kesetsenao Nxoja, a barber at Kab’s hair salon said he welcomed the developments and planned to save the little that he makes so that he could buy a taxi to take advantage of the development. Okavango sub district youth officer, Ms Ditebogo Matakata said the completion of internal roads in Gumare would be of benefit to the youth who have projects because of the influx of people who would be commuting via Gumare. Ms Matakata further mentioned that businesses that were going to benefit most from their funding list included bakeries. She said the youth in Gumare were going to benefit, including those who did not manage to further their schooling by opening small business next to roads or business centres. Still in Gumare, The Department of Road Transport and Safety officer, Ms Gofaone Legakwe said existing routes between Shakawe and Gumare would not change while new routes from Gumare to Tubu, Gumare to Nokaneng, Gumare to Etsha 6 and Gumare to Shakawe would be introduced. Ms Legakwe said by far eight taxis had been registered at their offices while applications for routes were still on going. The bus rank is expected to be operational at the end of July.
