Guns have no place in National Parks, period. Bear spray is carried for a reason, because it works very well. Shooting a grizzly rarely if ever kills the bear or even stops it. There have been hunters found with their guns next to them, dead. Now there is a wounded grizzly in Glacier who could be a danger to other hikers. More than likely the bear will be put down when its found, does that make anyone feel better? Bears are in hyperphagia right now, trying to pack on pounds so they can survive the winter. This is life or death for them. Its their home and were just visitors in it. We need to show respect. There are signs everywhere in Glacier and Northern Montana national forests, warning you are hiking in bear country and to be careful. So yes there will be bears on the trail, black and grizzly. Hikers SHOULD NOT hike alone at this time of year, I dont care how much they love the solitude of being alone. Its dangerous for the hiker and dangerous for the bear. It people are going to hike in bear country they should get a clue. Nobody wants to see dead hikers or dead bears.
