Said to have been written in 1666 Aristide Torchia in Venice. If you have sen the film The Ninth gate with Johnny Depp as Corso and Frank Langella as Balkan then this will be more the pleasing. Torchia was burned at the stake, and only 3 copies of the book exist. There are anomalies in each book!!! The book was alleged to have been Co written,by both Torchia and Lucifer Himself. There are 9 Woodcuts that correspond to the 9 gates, and here is where the anomalies manifest themselves. Some of the Woodcut prints are signed AT and some LCF Which is the real Book and which are the forgeries? This is the background for the quest. The real book would show the way to summon Lucifer Himself. Below is the first engraving. The 1st Gate: A knight on horseback holds a finger to his lips signaling silence or secrecy. The latin caption in the film translates to “Silence is golden”. In the book, however, the literal translation of the caption is given as “No one attains who unlawfully contends” or “Only he who has fought according to the rules will succeed”. AT: The knight sees a castle with four towers. LCF: The knight sees a castle with three towers (pictured here).
