HEY TEAM! Congrats on the incredible progress we have accomplished yesterday! We are almost there, only TWO practice left! Just a quick review for some of the commands/ techniques we have gone over from yesterdays practice: *START-UP* DOWN, READY? - lean forward to the lower back of the people sit in front of us BURIAL! (unsure about the spelling)- get in the ready position and FULLY burry our paddle blades in the water and our hand should be holding the throat of the paddle. (Do it fully, otherwise we are cheating on our boat!) Wait for a few seconds until the drummer is notified by the race to start. So just focus and listen carefully to the drummer! 6&16(no drums, drummer will count) GO, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, - start paddling, strong but with a normal pace (get ready for the fast 16 strokes) 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16- quick and powerful, key to keep same pace with others and no need to stretch it out 3-2-1, R-A-C-E P-A-C-E- return to regular race pace *POST-START-UP* - core of the race! REACH OUT! - Paddle harder! To stretch our arm 2 inch further for each of our paddling! TIME UP! - To remind everybody paddle at the same time! So someone must have paddled too fast or too slow when this command is given! Front 6 watch the front 4, back rows watch the row in front Its also called Paddle Up from another coach but we ll just use the TIME UP! BREATHE, DONT FORGET TO BREATHE - To breathe according to the rhythm of our paddling, dont want to burn out too fast BUTT, FORWARD! (uncertain about the spelling)- push butt harder to make the boat move forward! PICK UP! - goes 20 powerful strokes, regular race pace just give more strengths, will be given in the middle of the race to let the boat goes faster drummer will count *PRE-RACE*/ POST-RACE BACK IT DOWN - given when we try to take off dock, paddle backwards TAKE IT AWAY - given when we are off dock and try to get lined up with our lane, paddle gently LET IT RUN - stop paddling, let the boat go by itself CHUCK THE BOAT - to stop the boat moving by putting your paddle vertically into the water and holding it firm *IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER We are a team. We paddle as a team. We do every action as a team. Dragon boat is not kayaking, its never a individual sport but a team sport. Its tough for each of us keep our arm straight all the time, but altogether, WE ROCK!!! :) Big applause to Harris Mills Brown for courageously taking the steer role when the team needs, and man, you did a fantastic job! We also hope Soup will get recovered soon so we ll have a full team next time! Keep it up, CI Dragons!:)
