HISTORY OF KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION . The first kidney transplantation in the United States was performed on June 17, 1950. Although the donated kidney was rejected ten months later because no immuno-suppressive therapy was available at the time. . The first ever human kidney transplant performed in India was done at the King Edward Memorial Hospital at Bombay in May 1965, using a cadaver donor. It has been published in the Indian Journal of Surgery in February 1967. Apollo Hospitals conducted the first successful Kidney Transplant in June 1984 in Chennai, India. . The first kidney or renal transplant in Singapore was carried out on 8 July 1970 at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). She lived almost 22 years after the historic operation - this was, at the time, possibly the longest a patient had survived with a transplanted kidney in Asia.
