HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN/CNN) -- A Broward County dog is under the watchful and intensive care of veterinarians at the Hollywood Animal Hospital after a heartbreaking case of suspected animal cruelty. Much of the dogs skin was burned off with scorching water Sunday. Moon, a 1-year-old pit bull, was rushed to the hospital with second-degree burns on 30 to 40 percent of her body. She remains hospitalized Tuesday afternoon, and according to veterinarians has a long road to recovery. Doctors are worried Moons organs may fail as a result of the burns. They said Moon is recovering well and will survive, but for her recovery to be completely certain, the dog will need months of care. Veterinary Dr. Fumiko Miyamoto said, Moon will need her bandages to be changed daily for 30 to 90 days. Her wounds are basically on top of her head right here, the back, the leg and part of her forelegs too, so she has pretty significant burns. According to police, the dog was burned in a cruel case of domestic violence. The dogs owner, Mariah Facca, said she was breaking up with 27-year old Alain Williams Sunday when he told her he poured hot water on Moon. She said she is not sure if he hurt the dog out of revenge. Its horrible, you know, Facca said with tears streaming down her face. She doesnt even have any fur. She used to love going in the water. I dont even think she wants to be around water. Facca called the police and they arrested Williams, charging him with a count of torment, deprive, mutilate or kill an animal. On Monday a court judge set his bond for $86,000, saying: Burning the skin off an animal is really just beyond anyones imagination as to what the dog went through. Williams faces other charges for behavior during his arrest. According to reports, he told police he would find them and kill them before they subdued him with Taser. Moons medical costs are expected to exceed $10,000, which is an amount the dogs owner is unable to afford, according to the vets at the hospital. It hurts a lot. I dont want nothing to happen to my dog. I love her so much, Facca said. Courtesy: CNN Newsource
