HOT TIP (June 25, 2013) STATES COMPETE TO GIVE YOU MONEY… (“The Best 3 States”) (For all Hot Tips go “MOVIE CLOUD” & “LIKE”) -------------------------------------------- FREE MONEY: 1997 was a great year for Hollywood. Why? It was the first year that Canada, mainly the city of Toronto, started offering Producers a Refund Program (25% Refund for projects with $1MM or more budgets), then came Vancouver, then Calgary, then Ottawa…then, 10 years later, came the American states, who, now pissed that they lost so many shoots to the area in Canada which looks like them had to bring back the runaway productions to the states. Have you noticed… TORONTO looks like New York, Philadelphia, Boston… VANCOUVER looks like San Francisco, Portland, Seattle… CALGARY looks like Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas… OTTAWA looks like any American small city… HAILFAX looks like Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire… Now by the year 2007 there were 15-20 states that created programs (they didn’t have them before Canada started this game), with financial incentives based around Refunds, Grants, Loans, Rebates & Tax Credits to bring these shoots back to America. Today, 2013, 40 of the 50 states, within the USA, plus Puerto Rico, which looks like Mexico as-a-set without the violence factor, have excellent financial programs that those amazing Hollywood Producers know how to tap, monetize and turn into cash to be utilized to fund their shoot. Plus, you might use one state’s program for EXTERIOR SHOTS, another state’s program for INTERIOR SHOTS (Sound Stage), another state’s program for POST-PRODUCTION and even another state’s program for VISUAL EFFECTS. Wow. Ain’t this great! The best 3 states in America to play with, and set one against the other, and negotiate an even better deal are: 1) LOUISIANNA 2) NEW MEXICO 3) GEORGIA With close seconds being 4) MASSACHUSETTS 5) MICHIGAN 6) CONNECTICUT 7) FLORIDA Here’s what the top 3 States offer. 1) NEW MEXICO (“Breaking Bad”) a. 25% Refundable Tax Credit b. No minimum Budget required c. Additional 5% for TV Series with 6 episodes at $50,000 per 2) LOUISIANNA (“Duck Dynasty”) a. 30% Tax Credit (transferable) b. Additional 5% for Louisiana payroll expenditures c. No annual cap d. Can be sold back to state at 85% 3) GEORGIA a. 20% across the board Transferable Tax Credit b. 10% Bonus Tax Credit for using state’s Logo c. No limits, no Caps d.
