************ HOT TOPIC *********** Most recently were rumours spread about MARIA TUDOR, a rescuer I work with myself and find to be nothing but 100% dedicated....many people saw the very nasty attacks on this rescuer....SO.....here is a report from someone that got off their bottom and visited Maria...and perhaps those that hear the rumours from groups like Please Tell...can see TWO SIDES....as is unfair on them also to be put in a position of not knowing....PS the goats mentioned are Snoopy Rescue Goats....long story :P :P xxx Last Saturday, I visited Maria Tudor’s shelter, near Budesti (Calarasi county). My visit there had two reasons. First, I had the dog Negru Voda kept in that shelter and I wanted to check his recovery and to take some photos (still hoping I can find him a loving soul). Second, it was the need to convince myself that things are working as they should and that the animals in there are fine. I took a professional photographer with me, also an animal lover, because it’s good to have clear pictures if you are a witness to whether beautiful things or ugly things. After 30 or 40 minutes of driving (the shelter is around 40 km distance from Bucharest), I saw what I wanted to see. After that, I must fully admit that all those rumors about the bad conditions in which the dogs are kept at Margaret Shelter are complete bullshit. As anyone can see in the picture, the dogs live like in a lodge, they have bunk beds, one above another, they lay on mattresses which are replaced and cleaned regularly. Underneath the matresses there is a layer of straw. There was plenty of food and everything was surprisingly clean. The small dogs are separated from the rest and they all live in a building made of porous concrete bricks (AAC), which is heated with stoves. The dogs that are sensible to cold also have small protective coats, as you can see in the picture below. There are two caretakers who work in the shelter, and they both live there, day and night. The vet was young and also dedicated, as he came Saturday in the afternoon just to administrate some anti-parasite to a few dogs. All that stupid gossip told by various people about his right to practice medicine is just a mean thing, that man’s papers are valid. He doesn’t work only at Maria Tudor’s shelter. I don’t know how good he is compared to other vets in Bucharest, because in that city I have met both good and bad medics. What is certain, is that the vet does his work with care and his results are good. As a conclusion, I must say that I wrote this article in order to inform people with good intentions (lacking information for various reasons) and also to oppose those who spread lies. There are not many people who know Maria Tudor better than me, as we worked together many years on different projects. I can say she is doing a very good job, so there is nothing more to say, just to appreciate. If you don’t believe me, you can also ask Cristina Sincu, she was also very impressed about what she saw there. Honestly, how many private shelters (or people who foster dogs) have a medic who comes every day to treat the animals? How many shelters have bunk beds with mattresses and stoves for heating the rooms where they keep the puppies? How many shelters have permanent caretakers? Oviously, everyone who is aware of the conditions of the stray animals in Romania knows that these questions are just rhetorical… At the end, I bring you two healty goats which I found at the shelter, they make the place look like some kind of a sactuary.
