Habari ya asubuhi (Good morning) All! Happy Kwanzaa Day 4 May The Creator our Oldest Ancestor Bless you and yours! Cooperative Economics: Ujamaa (oo-JAH-mah) To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together. This principle I consider the catch all, without Cooperative Economics nothing else gets accomplished. In other words, how do we move beyond our collective existence? By following the first 4 principles you will find they rarely discuss the individual, however each individual has to act in accordance to the collective. Through this we will find our voice and power. Collective Economics is easier to achieve then not. If we collectively begin to think about spending our money within our own community first. It will not be easy, but well worth it. For instance, I actively seek out Black owned businesses everyday. Some are good and others not so good, however I make the effort. Why because I realize that if enough of us are making the same efforts, our businesses will grow and expand. More of us will be able to start our own business without the fear of not having a base to support us. Employment opportunities will open up for us and our children. Unemployment within our communities will come down. Crime and destruction will drop and our young men and women will have something to aspire to other then the school to prison pipeline. We have the ability to redefine who and what we are by supporting one another. Try it, try it for a year, lets see where it gets us.
