Habit Two – Begin With the End in Mind: I understand that one of the most important principles I can hold in my mind is to begin with the end in mind. Beginning with the end in mind means that I must get in touch with my deepest, most fundamental values, and clearly visualize what I want out of my life. Who do I want to affect most deeply? Who do I want to have in my life? What legacy do I want to leave for the world? Beginning with the end in mind means to start with a clear understanding of my destination. It means to know where I’m going so that I can understand where I am now and how to get where I want to be. Every part of my life can be examined in the picture of this greater whole. When I know what is truly important to me, I know what victories are vital and which are not truly productive. I know that all things are created twice. First, they are created in the mind, and then they are created in the physical. I must create a blueprint for my life before I can work to build the life I want on the physical plane. By understanding the principle of two creations and accepting the responsibility for both, I act within and enlarge the borders of my circle of influence. My capacity for self awareness, imagination, and conscience allows me to examine first creations and write my own script for my reality. Habit two is the process of the first creation. This habit is based on principles of personal leadership. Leadership is the first creation, and management is the second creation. Management helps me focus on how I can best accomplish certain things. Leadership makes clear what the things I want to accomplish are. Effective management can only exist when there is effective leadership behind it. I can only move towards my goal if I truly know what the end goal is. I must have a destination before I can create my road map. My effectiveness depends not on how much effort I expend, but on whether the effort I expend is in the right direction. Through imagination, I can visualize the worlds of potential that lie within me. Through conscience, I can come in contact with universal laws or principles that can help me develop. Combined with self awareness, I am able to write my own script. To shift my paradigm is the process of rescripting, or changing the basic paradigms that I already have. Habit two says that I can create or change any scripts that I want in order to boost my effectiveness and personal fulfillment. By beginning every day with my core values firmly in mind, I can make my decisions based on those values. I am truly proactive because my values are clear. One of the most effective ways to begin with the end in mind is to develop a personal mission statement. A mission statement focuses on what I want to be and what I want to achieve. Once I have a clear mission statement in mind, I have the essence of my own proactivity. I have the vision and values from which I can direct my life. This personal constitution helps me direct my energies in the best direction possible. To write a personal mission statement, I must begin at the center of my circle of influence. These are my most basic paradigms, the lens through which I see the world. Whatever is at the center of my life will be the source of my security, guidance, wisdom, and power. These four forces are interdependent, and create balanced character and a noble personality. Rather than centering my life to such things such as relationships, family, work, possessions, or myself, I have chosen to center my life in my principles. These principles guide me and allow me to improve my effectiveness in happiness in all those other areas. Principles are constant and reliable. I know that I can always fall back on my core of principles and ethics in any situation. I know that my principles are bigger than me, and by understanding the principles of my own growth, I am able to seek out correct principles and learn from them. By centering my life in these principles, I am more self aware, knowledgeable, and proactive. I have created a fundamental paradigm of effective living. This is the center that puts all other centers in perspective. My paradigm is the source from which my attitudes and behaviors flow. If I look at life through the paradigm of correct principles, I get the correct stimulus that will help me move forward to total effectiveness. When I come from a principle centered paradigm, I know my decision is my own. I know my decision is the most effective. I know that what I choose to do contributes to my ultimate values in life. I know I can communicate effective, and I’ll feel comfortable about my decision. My personal mission statement is something that will develop over time. It takes careful analysis and deep introspection. When complete, my mission statement becomes the expression of my vision and values, and the criterion by which I measure everything in my life. My brain is split into a logical side and a creative, intuitive side. By understanding both sides and how to use them, I can reach my full mental potential. My right, creative brain can be used to expand my perspective and develop new mental patterns. I can then use those principles to visualize and affirm the principles that I hold closest in my mind. My imagination is the most powerful tool I have at my disposal. My logical, left brain is key to identifying the roles I want to play and the goals I want to achieve. This is the part of my brain that allows me to focus my principles on what I want to achieve, once I understand what that is. Roles and goals give necessary structure to my personal mission statement. A mission statement is key to the effectiveness of any family, business, or organization, as well as to my personal fulfillment and success as an individual. I am ready to start my journey at the end, figure out where I want to be, and develop a mission statement that will help me get there. Through the power of visualization, and my decision to be proactive, I am ready to take the first steps to the end that I see for myself. ~NEW RELEASE!
