Had a good think about running as an Independent for the seat of Blair. We had made a decision to retire and enjoy life; but when an opportunity to possibly represent your community without ties to a political party comes around,we really have something to think about. The salary packages that politicians receive ($200K +) is also something that if elected could set us up extremely well for the rest of our lives. The fact that I and most people I speak to, have lost all faith in the political parties certainly makes me want to stand, even as a protest. I am confident that standing as an independent would have an effect on the Blair outcome. That outcome being assisting the Liberal candidate as most votes I would receive would most likely come from those who would have Labor leanings. Therefore after considering our options, the likely outcome of only assisting the Liberals, I have decided that our first decision was the right one, retire and enjoy life.
