Had a great time talking to Gary Newton the Legendary Bassplayer with the Hawking Brothers..alot of great stories were told as he was in getting his old trusty Fender bass worked on by my good friend Kevin Thompsons shop in Ballarat..I actually played a song for Gary on his bass which was a great Hawking Bros instrumental titled X for Blues named of course after George Xanthos there longtime Pedal Steel player., i also made mention to Gary as a boy i would go to the window outside the Lounge at the Reservoir Hotel and listen, and when my folks got a copy of there very first album i leant every song and never when my folks were home..i didnt want them knowing i liked some of there music..haha, and also keeping in mind that Max Merritts long time manager Wally Bishop before Max was also the Hawking Brothers longtime manager..Wally took that band to Nashville our very first band to go from oz i do believe..anyway Gary has very much offered me to come around his place and pickout of his archives any Music and Video footage what i want...blown away, he ;s a typical bassplayer though said he wasnt happy with his work on the albums..a great day and a very generous serious man and musician..lastly you can see Gary play when the Dalton gang play at the Pascoe vale RSL Gary travels down and plays one set with the band he said how elated he was to be playing again,..sorry about the long post but it has been a lifetime finally meeting him..much respect..Glenno..opps edit!!! the photo of myself holding the album cover was the bands very first record and this was signed by the band for my parents..the other photo was out of like a TV magazine and Gary is up the back of that photo with the very same bass as he has in today shots..Cool.
