Had bought a bunch of spinach...dint wanna do spinach rice or palak paneer....want all the nutrients to go directly into my kids tummies. ..coz evryone wud agree on how lil ones are fussy abt food...they wanna eat plain dosa or chappathi or plain rice....this recipe was something I put together basically relying on my instinct...so it was Spinach or Palakkerai or Palak chutney.. Ingredients: Spinach -one whole bunch Small onions-10-12 (whole) Nattu tomato (country)-3 small Garlic pods-7-8 Coconut- 1/4cup Zeeragam-1tsp Dried chiilies-2 whole Urad dal-1tbsp Chana dal-1tsp Tamarind-half lemon size Hing-a pinch Oil-2tbsp Salt to taste (I use rock salt) Method: *Wash spinach leaves well and roughly tear it into small pieces. *In a hot kadai or pan pour oil..add zeeragam..then in few seconds add urad and chana dal then in few secs add whole garlic pods...make sure u keep sautéing and not let it burn. *Add dried chiilies and a pinch of hing *Now add whole small onions and in a minute add whole tomatoes and let it saute till its skin starts peeling by itself. .its a lil time consuming but makes a whole lot difference in the end taste. *Add coconut either grated or finely cut. *Once the tomatoes are well sautéed add salt and let it cook for one more minute. *Add the torn spinach leaves and cook till the raw smell goes. *In the end add tamarind and switch off the heat and let it cool.. Grind the chutney and enjoy with Ragi, Wheat or Rice dosa..and can also be had with Rice and Rotis. Do try and let me know.
