Had gone to The Grand Sweets & Snacks restaurant in Velachery - TopicsExpress

Had gone to The Grand Sweets & Snacks restaurant in Velachery (Taramani rd) last weekend for lunch. Not a great experience. It is supposed to be a new branch. Ambience: The interior designer seemed to have got confused half way through his work. Partially traditional South feel and then partially mughal-influenced styles. Otherwise, the ambience was good. (didnt go upstairs - this is only abt the ground floor). Food: we picked the value meal based on hunger levels. It resembled the old joke about large scale cooking - prepare one dish; take from the top to get rasam; from the middle, sambar; bottom, karakuzhambu. The coconut thuvayal was good. Not impressive. Service: when we were there, apart from us there wer less than 10 ppl having food. But service was veryyyy slow. Took some 10 mins to get one plate of meals and another 5 to get. The second. They gave the chappathis kurma when chappathi was not in the menu. But forgot the curd. Had to pickup salt myself from the next table. Had to wave frantically to get more water. (remember, no crowd). At the end, the waiter gave a bill with wrong entries saying sir, wrongly printed but the total amount is same... Actually rs 5 more..... Not impressed. I told my wife, they are known for their original business - snacks n sweets. So lets get them. bought a bottle of pulikaychal. Wanted to buy some sweets, but since we dont eat much, wanted to get only a little. Wife wanted coconut barfi. We asked for make 250 gms with mix of coconut barfi and soan papdi. After coming home, opened the box to find soan papdi and milk peda! Phew, not impressed!!!
